The HUMULIZA Orphan Project was initiated and implemented in 1997 in Nshamba in the Kagera region of Tanzania by terres des hommes schweiz and funded by the Novartis Foundation and Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). The HUMULIZA Project is a key operator of REPSSI (Regional Psychosozial Support Initiative).

The HUMULIZA project has the following objectives:  

1. Develop practical instruments to enable teachers and caregivers to support orphans psychologically, and create a supportive environment for children affected by HIV/AIDS.
2. Develop children's capacity to cope with the loss of their caregivers in an effort to enhance their resilience.
