HUMULIZA'S MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS

In general, Humuliza has recorded a number of achievements over the years it has been operational, and the following are some of those considered as major ones:

  • Formulating child lead organization in 21 cluster/villages.
  • Integrating the peer prevention program into psychosocial interventions which has impacted positively on the awareness and knowledge of youth in regard to HIV/AIDS.
  • The leading role it has played in the creation of a supportive environment for orphaned children affected by HIV/AIDS in Nshamba and neighboring villages.
  • Forming the group of HIV/ AIDS infected children and caretakers hence get support from the Organization.
  • The leading role it has played in the development of a skilled work force for the social sector particularly in the training of social workers and care givers on Psychosocial supporting areas for the aim of support orphan and vulnerable children.
  • Provision of psychosocial support to increasing number of OVCs in Nshamba and its neighborhood. (The number of OVCs reached by Humuliza as at end of June 2010 was 2600)
  • The role it has played in reinforcing institutional capacity of civil society organizations in its catchments area. Humuliza has mentored and supported a good number of NGOs and CBOs involved in psychosocial work. E.g. SAWATA, TADEPA, MDM(Kenya) World Vision, (Ruhita ADP) and Salvation Army Tanzania.
  • To be the best practices in Tanzania for providing PSS to OVC/MVC and their caregivers (as it is mentioned in The National Coasted Plan of Action).
  • TDH (Terre des Hommes Schweiz) has been supporting Humuliza programs since 1997 up to now. For 2008/9 Humuliza got fund from Social Action Trust Fund (SATF) Tanzania to support the MVC Education program. And GLOBAL FUND-PACT TANZANIA has entered into contract with Humuliza in March 2009 to support the MVCs with scholastic materials, shelter, food and nutrition, Health and provide Psychosocial support.

 

NETWORKING:

a) NGO’S and CBO’s:
REPSSI, SALVATION ARMY TANZANIA, SAWAKA, TADEPA, KIVULINI, WOSCA, NELICO, KWA WAZEE, TUMAINI LETU, WORLD VISION (Nshamba and Ruhita ADPs), FHI and SATF implementing partners and KAPAMU.


b) COMMUNITY MEMBERS:

  • Government leaders from local level to National level.
  • Teachers of primary and secondary.
  • Caretakers/guardians.
  • Religious leaders.

CHALLENGES:

  • Material against psychosocial support:
  • Most of the people including donors have high expectations of material support, for example food and bicycle among others regardless PSS being a cross cutting issue.
  • The impact of tradition:
  • Sometimes it is difficult for some people to change their perception of children being objects, while PSS considers children as social actors.
  • Shortage of fund to run its activities.
  • Insufficient Support to infected children and their caretakers.
  • The increasing number of MVCs
  • Inadequate means of Transport.
